Other Services
I have often been called the ‘information centre of Puerto Calero Marina’ and have been a point of call for many people requesting information about boat and other available services. Thus, over the years, I have built up an array of knowledge which has been helpful to residents, tourists of all nationalities and visiting boat crews. Hopefully, some of the information shown below will be of assistance to you but if there is something not shown and you think I may be able to help you then please contact me.
GENERAL ADVICE ON BOAT PURCHASE IN SPAIN
Thinking of buying a boat? How do I go about it? What paperwork is required? Do I need to go to a Notary? Should I berth it in a marina or keep it on a trailer? What is CE certification? Should I have the boat surveyed before purchase? Should I buy a Spanish or British registered boat?
ADVICE ON SPANISH BOAT REGULATIONS
What qualifications do I need to use a boat? Are my RYA qualifications valid in Spain? What is the PER? What inspections of the boat are required and how often? What do the ‘registration numbers’ (matricula) mean on the boat? Can I keep my British registered boat in Spain? If I am unable to help you with any queries, then I can put you in touch with a Spanish gestoria who specialises in marine matters.
BOAT MAINTENANCE AND REPAIRS
Whether you already keep your boat in Lanzarote or may be contemplating stopping off with your boat, you may need the services of good, reliable workmen, e.g. engine mechanic, sailmaker, fibreglass repairs, welding, rigging, marine electronics etc. If you do not already have contacts in these fields then please contact me for further information.
VICTUALLING OF BOATS
Puerto Calero Marina is a popular ‘stopping off point’ for vessels which are making an Atlantic crossing. Apart from individual boats making such a passage, members of the ARC are regular visitors each year. Apart from giving crews advice on where to get their fresh fruit and vegetables, fresh eggs, gas bottles and a thousand other items, I also offer a ‘shop and deliver’ service to boats. Just give me a list of what you require and I will deliver. Please contact me for further information.
ACCOMMODATION
A range of good quality hotels and self catering accommodation is available throughout the island, although I tend to recommend the areas of Puerto Calero and Puerto del Carmen Old Town to my clients – purely because of their close proximity to the marina. If you would like information on the different types of accommodation, with prices and availability then please contact me.
CAR HIRE
The island of Lanzarote has a lot to offer the visitor and there is no better way to explore the delights and sights than by being your ‘own boss’ and taking your time. The roads here are very good and well signposted, and with the aid of a map you can be sure of visiting the many attractions on offer. Please let me know if I can assist you with car hire.
