Basic Navigation & Safety (Theory)
RYA BASIC NAVIGATION & SAFETY COURSE
Course Fee: 200 Euros
This course can be covered in a series of short sessions (total duration 16 hours) or over 2 full days. It is totally classroom based and the course fee is inclusive of all course materials (training chart, course plotter, course handbook, exercises and electronic chart plotter CD).
Whether you are completely inexperienced or feeling ‘a bit rusty’, this course is designed as an introduction to navigation and safety awareness. It is ideal for anyone involved in sailing, motorboating, sea angling, scuba diving or any water related activity. The minimum age for students is 12 years.

- charts and publications
- safety at sea
- engine checks
- buoyage
- tides
- visual & electronic navigation
- pilotage
- anchoring
- rules of the road (IRPCS)
- weather forecasts
- daytime passage planning
This course provides a great foundation in navigation and is a good stepping stone towards the RYA Day Skipper theory course.
