Intermediate Powerboat Day Cruising Course
RYA INTERMEDIATE POWERBOAT DAY CRUISING COURSE - Duration 2 days
Course Fee: 450 Euros
This course is also known as the Powerboat Day Cruising Course and is run over 2 days. The course covers the practical use of pilotage and passage planning by day on tidal coastal waters using both traditional and electronic navigational techniques.
Students must be of a minimum age of 16 years and competent to the standard of Powerboat Level 2. It is strongly recommended that a current First Aid certificate and VHF radio operator’s licence are held. A maximum number of 3 students will be catered for on the course.
A number of the subjects that were covered in the Level 2 Course such as navigation, use of GPS, charts and chart symbols, use of hand bearing and steering compasses etc will be looked at again in order that you are completely familiar and ‘up to speed’. A daytime passage will then be planned and executed by means of both the GPS and electronic chartplotter, and traditional chartwork.
Man overboard exercises and other aspects of boat handling will also be included whilst we are afloat.
The practical elements of the course are carried out in a 7.5 metre RIB (rigid hulled inflatable boat) powered by a Volvo Penta D3 160 HP inboard diesel engine and operating from Puerto Calero Marina. The boat is fully equipped with DSC VHF radio, GPS, chartplotter and echo sounder. A full complement of safety equipment is also carried onboard.
